Another Kodi Crackdown: What’s next?

The year 2017 can be a very much to be remembered. A lot of events came in front of the world and still don’t know what would be coming next. The half of the world has already broken down, due to so many catastrophic events like California Fire, Florida drowning case or Lebanon murder case and so on. People were also found talking about net neutrality, one of the biggest issues storming all over the globe. Some of them are favoring it and some were found protesting against it. Meanwhile, there was one big interesting thing happened in the late 2017 and this was very much concerning for everyone including me. And it was the Crackdown of illegal Kodi addons. 

Since I’ve been a Kodi user myself, for about a year KodiAddonz has been a wonderful place for me to find information about all the “Late” and the latest video add-ons. Not only you can find the latest installation guides, but also the changes we will be seeing in the future in these addons. 

In the mid of November, we witnessed that the UK government along with the United States and Canada initiated a huge crackdown against the illegal Kodi add-ons. A lot of third-party developers received threats from major Hollywood studios, which made them shut down some of the popular unofficial video add-ons like Covenant, Exodus, Bennu, Pro Sports etc. Not only the add-ons, but we also saw some popular repositories being taken down like Colossus, Ares Wizard, Smash, etc. 

The UK Charity CrimeStoppers has announced a new campaign against these add-ons in order to minimize the risk of piracy. This campaign has almost designed its blueprint and has planned to initiate it at the start of 2018. 

Kodi, which was formally known as XBMC, is not illegal. However, it is unfortunate that the channels and the media industry giants have raised their subscription charges at such level, that people are heading towards making a good use of third-party free Kodi add-ons, that are free but pirated. 

But according to me, as a Kodi user, the crackdown is not the solution of all. I mean yeah I am also against piracy, but in order to provide the best Kodi add-ons, the officials should minimize the rates and make it subsidized. New Kodi add-ons and their developers should be given a chance to provide an all in one less expensive add-ons so that everyone can make business.
